tigerdarklord writes 'The Sci-Fi concept of pet cloning has become a commercial venture. Genetic Savings & Clone now not only offers genebanking for your pet (alive or recently dead), but a full service cloning shop. Although they started by producing two clones of the CEO's cat, they have now produced their first commercial clone for a woman from Texas. GSC has modified their cloning procedure to overcome the resemblance issues demonstrated when the College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M, created CopyCat. The technology looks promising but the $50,000 price tag will prove to place the service out of the reach of most pet owners.'"

$50,000?? I'ce had some very cool pets, but none worth $50 large.

Adventure Game Studio

Adventure Game Studio: "Adventure Game Studio (AGS for short) allows you to create your own point-and-click adventure games, similar to the early 90's Sierra and Lucasarts adventures. It consists of an easy-to-use development environment, and run-time engine. "

For those of us that grew up playing games like Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (my favorite!) and others - now you can make you own (Or remake a classic).

www.neogentronyx.com

www.neogentronyx.com: "The NMX04-1A is the first attempt at a fully functional prototype by Neogentronyx, but it will certainly not be the last. It is possible to arm the mecha for virtually any possible situation, whether it is military, construction, firefighting, or riot control or entertainment. The possibilities at this point are seemingly limitless. "

Interesting, but I don't think the military potential is as great as the movies (or this guy) make them out to be.

What a (Virtual) View! - Popular Science

"Ryan Hoagland, who spends his working life testing chip designs in Silicon Valley, took an engineering approach to improving the view from his living room. Using eight surplus LCD screens he found at his office, a leftover PC and some custom cables, he created two virtual windows over his fireplace that can open onto whatever vista he chooses..."

Why didn't I think of that?

The Tech Report - HP tips Athlon 64 for Media Center Edition PC: "HP has always had a bit of a soft spot for AMD, and it's now using an Athlon 64 processor in one of its Media Center Edition systems. The New York Times > Technology > A Toy With a Story

"There is a story behind every electronic gadget sold on the QVC shopping channel. This one leads to a ramshackle farmhouse in rural Oregon, which is the home and circuit design lab of Jeri Ellsworth, a 30-year-old high school dropout and self-taught computer chip designer."

Very cool. I want one.

Bush Stands Firm Against Emissions Controls, Some States Flirt With Europe on Reductions

"Two sets of Americans have come here to talk global warming: the United States, opposed to controls on carbon emissions, and a bloc of united states, from Maine to Delaware, that plan to impose them."

Good to see some parts of our Government (States) don't have their head up their ass. I, for one, would love to see States assert the power granted to them. Just because the Federal Government doesn't want to take a stance on reducing emissions doesn't mean the States can't come up with their own plan.

Soldering Surprise

Soldering Surprise

"August 16, 2004: Richard Grugel, a materials scientist at the Marshall Space Flight Center, watched his video monitor in disbelief. A transmission from the International Space Station was playing. The scene: Astronaut Mike Fincke touches the tip of a soldering iron to a wire wrapped with rosin-core solder.

The solder, heated, became a molten blob with a droplet of rosin clinging tight to the outside. Solder melts: that's not too surprising. It's the behavior of the rosin that amazed. As the temperature increased, the droplet began to spin, round and round, faster and faster, like a miniature carnival ride. "

The video is really neat. Lack of gravity does some interesting things...

Wired News

Wired News: "But, But She's Naked!
Our elected officials are often corrupt, venal or stupid. Now and then, they're just downright lame. Take Vermont Gov. James Douglas, who wants a lamp removed from his Statehouse desk because it incorporates a replica of the statue The Greek Slave, which depicts the figure of a chained, nude woman. Although the lamp was produced by one of the state's most renowned sculptors, Hiram Powers, the governor said he's uneasy with children seeing a nude, chained woman on his desk. Never mind that the nude is a cornerstone of classical sculpture, or that the kids are already gorging themselves on violent video games and worthless pop culture. Of course, that's commerce, not art, and therefore valuable to the prevailing culture.

I really hate stupid people. Really.

Wired News

Wired News: "Hear No Evil
An interpreter for the deaf on UT-1, Ukraine's official state-run TV station, ignored the anchorman's report on Viktor F. Yanukovich's 'victory' in the country's presidential race last week and instead told her viewers that the election was rigged, The New York Times reported. Natalia Dimitruk instead declared opposition leader Viktor A. Yushchenko to be the rightful winner. 'I am very disappointed by the fact that I had to interpret lies,' she went on. 'I will not do it any more. I do not know if you will see me again.' Dimitruk's act of defiance helped spark a general media revolt in Ukraine, where restrictions on a free press are severe. The media's sudden willingness to buck the authorities is one reason new elections will be held to determine the country's next president. Ah, for a strong, independent press.

Sermon: Living Under Fascism : Davidson Loehr

Sermon: Living Under Fascism : Davidson Loehr: "Democracy, to crush fascism internally, must...develop the ability to keep people fully employed and at the same time balance the budget. It must put human beings first and dollars second. It must appeal to reason and decency and not to violence and deceit. We must not tolerate oppressive government or industrial oligarchy in the form of monopolies and cartels."

Excellent article on Facism and how it applies to the US today. This is the type of talk I would expect from a Patriot.

Political Correctness and Christmas...

"The NAACP has announced that it is filing a class action lawsuit against God and Associates. The lawsuit is claiming that God and Associates have been promoting Racism every year by only having White Snow. With over 100,000 plaintiffs, the lawuit is starting to gain serious momentum.

At a NAACP rally this Monday, NAACP chairperson was quoted as saying "This Precipitous Racism has got to end. I hope one day our children can play in White snow, Black snow, Red snow, Yellow snow..." She then turned to the crowd and started chanting "Hell no, no more honky snow" . We will be following this story and will bring you more news as it happens."

Accuracy International

Accuracy International

"Accuracy International was formed in 1978 to design and build tactical rifles. The original ethos combined two factors into an unique package: namely the incorporation of performance enhancing features learned in Olympic and international target shooting onto a rifle platform exhibiting full military ruggedness."

Impressive, and well priced, long-range rifles.
